C.L. Salter Wins Matching Funds Contest in 2009-10 Cash for the Classroom Program
June 5, 2010 - Salter Elementary School pulled out all the stops to raise a total of $11,852.78 as the May School of the Month in First National Banks first annual Cash for the Classroom program. We at the bank are very proud of Salter, but more importantly, we are proud of all the schools! Each school came together ans worked with students and parents to raise money for specific programs at each school. Totals ranged from $700 to almost $8,000 raised at the other 9 schools during the school year.
As the winner, Salter Elementary will receive a $6,000 donation from First National Bank. The management of the bank is proud to donate this money to support local schools, especially since the employees banded together to raise $2,600 which was donated in equal amounts to the schools each month.
The program was such a big success for the schools that FNB is already planning on continuing the program in the 2010-11 school year. Some changes will be made, but the primary goal will remain the same... Get the faculty, students, parents & the community as a whole behind some of the great things going on in our schools and using this good news to help meet the needs so that the schools can continue to do even better.
June/July 2010 School of the Month
June 1, 2010 - With the public school systems out for summer break, the employees at FNB will still go casual many Fridays. Each full time employee at the bank donates a minimum of $2.00 per month for this privilege. During the summer, all funds raised by the employee donations and any money donated by customers at our 3 locations will be donated to the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind.
Many people never realize what a great treasure lies amidst the historical homes in Talladega. For over 150 years, AIDB has served a special need for people throughout the state of Alabama by bringing them to Talladega (and now several other satellite campuses throughout the state) to help them become self-sufficient and productive members of society. What some view as a handicap, the students who attend AIDB's several campuses view as merely an obstacle that can be overcome with a little training and ingenuity. From canes to guide dogs to books on tape and large screen monitors used to access computers, these students can do most anything they set their mind to.
One obstacle that is difficult for some students is their families financial situation. The amazing staff at AIDB is always willing to help out when possible; from personal items to an ice cream cone (for that student that just needs a pick me up one day), the staff often reaches into their pocket to take care of these needs. The money raised this summer will be used to help with some of these needs as they arise.
FNB is no stranger to the AIDB system. For a number of years, the employees at the bank have enjoyed adopting students from our Angle Tree to help spread Christmas Cheer to the students before they return home. Lucky customers that stop by during the Angel Tree Reception each December are treated to homemade goodies and the joy of sharing in the excitement of the students as they sing and sign Christmas Carols to the employees. After a few songs, the students spend about an hour visiting with the employees, sharing laughter and stories that warm the hears of everyone that attends.

If you would like to donate to AIDB fund during the months of June and July, you may drop your donation at any FNB branch in the Cash for the Classroom jug or click the PayPal link above to donate online.
