November 2009 School of the Month
November 1, 2009 -- R.L. Young Elementary School in the Bemiston community has been selected by Superintendent Campbell as the November School of the Month. The school has done a fantastic job of increasing test scores across the board, a plan they hope to continue with the purchase of more technology for the school.
Students, teachers and faculty came together on December 8th to receive a check from First National Bank of Talladega employees. Much of the money was raised by the students and faculty during the month of November, with a helping hand from employees and customers of the bank.
Principal Pattie Thomas said the entire school is very excited about the Cash for the Classroom program and the ultimate goal of the fundraisers will be to purchase additional ELMO projectors for the school, so that eventually all classrooms will have a projector.
According to the Principal, the school's technology has given the teachers additional tools to help inspire the students to work hard and get more involved with the learning process, and the test scores show this. Several types of fundraisers are planned, starting off the first week with a hat day for the students. The school is very excited about the opportunity to work with the great parents at R.L. Young and look forward to a successful fundraising month. Check back soon for more news about their progress.
