December 2009 School of the Month

December 1, 2009 -- Winterboro High School has been chosen by Dr. Suzanne Lacy, Talladega County School's Superintendent, as the December 2009 School of the Month in the FNB Cash for the Classroom program. Principal Craig Bates is very excited as are the faculty and students at Winterboro.

Winterboro High School students were excited to receive a check for $1,309.02 representing the money they raised as the December School of the Month. Students Madison Dowdy and Samantha White (front) join Jacolby McMeans, Jaylen Ashley, Brad Morris, Devin Reynolds, Kalie Holmes, Erica Roberson and Ni'Vajia Miller to accept the check on behalf of the faculty and staff at WHS.

Over the last year, the school has gone through a major transformation; from traditional classroom to a 21st Century Skills Initiative environment that includes joint teaching environments and project based learning. Part of this initiative includes a 1 to 1 student to computer ratio, and this is where the money raised in December will make an impact. According to Principal Bates, there is still a need for equipment and software for the teachers and students to use as part of the new format at the school. The additional dollars will allow them to purchase additional equipment and software to continue to enhance the student's learning experience.

The school is still working out details for some of the fundraisers during this month, but everyone is looking forward to the challenge.
