January 2010 School of the Month

January 1, 2010 -- Graham Elementary School in Talladega has been selected as the January School of the Month in First National Bank's Cash for the Classroom program. Fresh from recent renovations, the school looks great and the faculty and staff are ready to finish one final project... landscaping.

The entire school turned out to see the check presentation and was very excited about becoming the new leader in the matching funds program, which will match the one School of the Month that raises the most money during the 2009-10 school year. The FNB employees on hand to present the check were very proud to see the enthusiasm the students and faculty showed during the month. Accepting the check for the school are: Front Left: Haven Suttle & Jaden Murphy; 2nd row: Peter Whitworth, Ty Isbell, Whitney Mims, Jessica Hazel, Payton Baines, Brady Smith, Kelle Young-Kidd & Daniel Everitt; 3rd row: JaMya Chatman, Cortney Cook & Brittany Bond; Front Right: Principal Melissa Dyer and Margaret Barclay with FNB.The entire school turned out to see the check presentation and was very excited about becoming the new leader in the matching funds program, which will match the one School of the Month that raises the most money during the 2009-10 school year. Principal Melissa Dyer has big plans for the money raised in January because it will not only go to help make the school look better by finishing the landscaping, but the project will provide the staff an opportunity to allow the students a hands-on teaching experience. The plan is to use this project as a teaching experience to the students can learn about nature, how plants grow, how different plants and bushes help the ecosystem and environment in different ways and how they should be maintained to stay healthy. This type of hands-on project will not only provide learning opportunities, but hopefully instill greater pride in the student body of the school.

To help raise money, a number of fundraisers have been planned, including: "Cool Hats and Shades Day", "Movies for Mulch Day", a Valentine King and Queen Competition that will kick off in January & eat with a friend day. Parents and families of Graham students are also encouraged to make a donation of any type, including spare change. Donation jugs are setup at the school and at all three First National Bank locations. You can also donate online by clicking on the PayPal link above. Check out the Graham Elementary Blog as well as the Facebook Fan Page for FNB for pictures and more information about the events this month.
